What is an Affirmative sentence and a Negative sentence?

Assertive, Interrogative, and Imperative sentences have two parts, these are -

  1. Affirmative sentence.
  2. Negative sentence.

What is an Affirmative sentence?

- An affirmative sentence is a sentence that is used to indicate that something is true or correct.

 

- It is a statement that affirms or confirms something.

Here are examples:

  1. I am feeling well today.
  2. The sun is shining brightly.
  3. She has finished her homework.
  4. I am learning English.
  5. She loves chocolate ice cream.
  6. The sun is shining brightly.
  7. He plays the piano every day.
  8. The cat is sleeping on the couch.
  9. I have finished my homework.
  10. She enjoys gardening in her backyard.
  11. The children are playing in the park.
  12. He is the best soccer player on the team.
  13. The airplane landed safely.
  14. She has a warm smile and makes everyone feel welcome.
  15. The train will arrive in 20 minutes.
  16. He loves spending time with his family.

 

​What is a Negative sentence?

- A negative sentence is a sentence that is used to indicate that something is not true or incorrect.

- It is a statement that denies or contradicts something. In English, negative sentences are typically formed by adding the word ”not” after the auxiliary verb.

- We use negative in our daily life to understand


Here are examples:

  1. ​I am not feeling well today.
  2. He is not reading.​
  3. They are not playing.
  4. I don’t like this movie.
  5. She failed the test.
  6. He never keeps his promises.
  7. The weather is terrible today.
  8. The food was not tasty.
  9. This movie is boring.
  10. I don’t agree with your decision.
  11. They don't approve of the plan.
  12. I am not happy with his decision
  13. I do not like mushrooms.
  14. Today she won’t be able to come to school.
  15. He has never been to Japan.
  16. He hasn’t finished the homework yet.
  17. I can’t swim very well.
  18. She doesn’t play the piano.

​The Difference Between Affirmative & Negative Sentences:

            Affirmative sentence

        Negative sentence

I am feeling well today

  I am not feeling well today.

The sun is shining brightly.


  The sun is not shining brightly.


She has finished her homework.


    She has not finished her homework.


They are going to visit the village.

  They are not going to the movies tonight.

The cat is sleeping on the couch.

  The cat is not sleeping on the bed.
